Peter and the Starcatcher is a whimsical, action-packed prequel to Peter Pan that tells the story of how an orphaned boy becomes the iconic hero. The play follows young Peter and his friends as they embark on a high-seas adventure filled with pirates, magic, and mysterious "starstuff." Along the way, they meet a brave girl named Molly, who is tasked with protecting the starstuff from the villainous Black Stache. Through clever storytelling, humor, and imaginative staging, the play explores themes of friendship, identity, and the power of believing in the impossible.

PRE-Production

Before I vied for the opportunity to direct Peter and the Starcatcher, I explored the world of the play with 4 actors over Zoom. Afterwards, I created a mini-documentary of the entire process, laying the bedrock of what would become the full production.

  • This mini-documentary style video was created using around 8 hours of rehearsal footage. We began with some Chekhov, by Crossing the Threshold and priming the physical body. We then explored the World of the Play through physical storytelling; utilizing exercises and techniques of the physical theatre company, Frantic Assembly.

  • A special thank you to these wonderful actors who were open and receptive to this exploration.

Davion Bell, Nathan Fennacy, Mika Djo, and Manny Madera
